Missing or Garbage Text in Message Box in Windows 11 Due to Transparency Effect

The Problem

In some configurations of Windows 11, Message Boxes in Elliott are sometimes displayed without any message text and with the screen below them bleeding into the Message Boxes.  When this happens, it may look like this:

In this example, the ? character is actually from the background window text "9. Commissionable ?"  This problem can happen in the Windows 11 environment.  But it is not consistent.

The Workaround

If you see this happen occasionally, there is a Windows setting that can fix this:
  1. Go to Settings, then Personalization, then Colors.
  2. Switch Transparency effects from On, as shown below, to Off.


This will eliminate the occasional side effect of Elliott Message Boxes being displayed in a transparent way, without text.
