Q - I investigated a complaint from Emporium that some COP orders' Frt Code is changed to H. When printing the Pick Ticket,
the Frt Code is changed to H. After removing the H and
adding a line with an Item and Price, printing a Pick Ticket Frt Code was
not changed to H. I can show you on the client
site or I am sure you can duplicate.
A - First,
when the freight code is changed to “H," it means the order is on hold. In your
situation, this is happening likely due to the fact that your user is using the Avalara
add-on. The Avalara add-on can put orders on hold when certain exception conditions occur. To better understand why a
specific order is on hold, you should review the order notes (for example, via
order inquiry). See if you understand what the note says. If you don’t, please contact us.
Another
common issue people raised with when an order is put on hold is that the original
freight code value was lost. I don’t
think you are raising this issue. But just to prepare you for a better
understanding, the following is a more detailed explanation of “freight code:”
In
Elliott, the freight code in the order header is being used for two different
purposes:
Freight
Code (C, T, R, S, P, or blank)
Placing
an order on hold (value “H”)
Ideally,
the hold flag and the freight code should be two separate fields in the order
header. However, Macola made a decision about 30 years ago to combine them into
a single field. The obvious issue is that when an order is put on hold, the
freight code is overwritten with “H,” causing the original freight code to be
lost. This is exactly what you observed.
This
was likely not much of a problem 30 years ago because most orders had a blank
freight code, which is equivalent to “prepaid.” So when an order was released
from hold, simply removing the “H” flag usually restored the correct freight
code.
Over
time, however, the freight code has become increasingly critical. To solve this issue, we made the following improvements:
We
added a new function: “Release Held Order”
In
2004, we added a new field “38. Frt Col/Prepad” to the customer
file, which serves as the default value for the order header. (See sample
screen below.)
During
the release of a held order, the system will replace the “H” value with the
value from field 38 in the customer file. Generally speaking, this resolves the
issue. However, if the order’s freight-paid code was overridden, we cannot
restore the original freight code in the order.
