Feature - Production Labor Variance Event

Feature - Production Labor Variance Event

Release Date: 06/21/2024
Version: 8.5 & Up

In Plus Work Order, when the operator is using the Work Order Production method to record time and production, the system now can optionally trigger an event when the actual production time exceeds the expected production time.  You can subscribe to this event by going to System Utilities -> System Files Setup -> Maintenance -> Operator File. Bring up any operator and press the "Event" toolbar button. See sample screen below:

In the Event Request SYOPRFIL window, press F5=Insert and select the "Production Labor Variance" event. See sample screen below:

Typically, in the Event General Tab, you will choose the following:
  • Action Type = Email
  • Disposition = Recurring request
  • Click on the "Subscribe to All" button so this event applies to all operators

The following variables are supported:
  1. Operator ID
  2. Work Order Number
  3. Operation# & Desc
  4. Item#
  5. Item Description
  6. Production Qty
  7. Production Hours
  8. Variance Hours -  You can use this to filter so you only send an email when the variance is greater than a certain number of hours. Please be aware the value in this field is negative.
  9. Variance% -  You can use this to filter so you only send an email when the variance is greater than a  certain percent. Please be aware the value in this field is negative.
  10. Comment - If BOMP Global Setup, Screen 4, flag "14. Prompt When Neg. Variance Exceeds Threshold?" is set to "Y," then the system can optionally prompt the user for the reason why the time is exceeded. The user can enter up to 10 lines. The value of the first line will be here.

For example, if a situation occurs where the user exceeds the expected hours, the system prompts the user to enter the reason as follows:

An email similar to the following will be sent:

Regardless of whether or not the system prompts the user to add a reason for the exception, as long as the production exceeds the expected time this event will be triggered.  If you want to limit the email to only those that are more significant, you can use the variable Variance Hours and Variance % to filter. See sample screen below:

Please be aware that the variance will have a negative value when production time exceeds expected time. So you need to use the "LE" (Less Equal Than) operator on negative values. The above example really means when Variance Hours >= 0.25 hours and Variance Percent >= 30%, then this event is triggered.
