Change Customer Number or Create New Customer and Import Ship-To

Q - We had to create a new customer number for our T&EAZ account. We are doing a web project and the website does not like the "&" symbol that is in this customer number.

My question for you is…. Is it possible to change this customer number without having to create a new one? Can we, or you, take the "&" out of the customer number and keep all the history?

If not, my second question is, is it possible to copy ship-to’s? The current T&EAZ account has over 800 ship-to’s and it would be great if we could somehow upload them all into the new customer number. 


A - We can’t change the customer number because that’s part of the primary key and it is being referenced to the foreign keys everywhere in other tables. What you can do is to set up a new customer to replace T&EAZ. Change the T&EAZ customer name to something like “Do Not Use” and put the account on credit hold…etc.

You can import the ship-to under T&EAZ to the new customer. Below is the CSV file structure:



We presume you know how to export the 800 ship-to for T&EAZ out in this CSV format. Then mass change the customer number to the new account. Then go to COP -> Maintenance -> Ship-To File Maintenance -> Import.
