Avalara - Update Requirements

Relational Database Support

The Avalara sales tax integration features available in version 8.6 are based on the PSQL relational database engine and require segmented keys and alphabetic document numbers. The integration is compatible with the version 8.5 or 8.6 DDFs. The DDFs that are installed must match the data file structure used by the Avalara sales tax integration.  Due to this requirement, the DDFs must also be updated after the installation of an Elliott update.

Running Version 8.6 Only of Elliott and Using 8.6 DDFs

Immediately after downloading and running the Elliott update, you should login to Elliott as the user SUPERVISOR.  When you do that, the startup process will compare the newer DDF files to the DDF files you were using for the relational engine (e.g., ELI86DATA or ELI86ROOT:
  • If no DDF files are different, Elliott will run without doing anything more.
  • If any changes are detected, the software will immediately copy the newer DDF files to directories (<ElliottRoot>\Bin86\DDF40\STDDDF, <ElliottRoot>\Bin86\DDFROOT\STDDDF, and <ElliottRoot>\Bin\DDF40) so that Elliott will run with the latest DDF files.

Running Version 8.6 Only of Elliott Using 8.5 DDFs

If you are running version 8.6 and using the 8.5 DDFs, you must download and install both versions of the Elliott update. After the 8.5 installation procedure has completed successfully, the updated DDF files must be manually copied from <ElliottRoot>\BIN85\DDF40\LASTUPDATE to the destination like <ElliottRoot>\Bin85\DDF40 or <ElliottRoot>\Bin85\DDF40\STDDDF. Running Versions 8.5 and 8.6 of Elliott Side by Side

You must install the both corresponding versions of 8.5 and 8.6 Elliott updates. If you are running with the version 8.5 DDFs, after the 8.5 installation procedure has completed successfully the updated DDF files must be manually copied from <ElliottRoot>\BIN85\DDF40\LASTUPDATE to the destination like <ElliottRoot>\Bin85\DDF40 or <ElliottRoot>\Bin85\DDF40\STDDDF.  If you are running with the version 8.6 DDFs, after the 8.6 installation procedure has completed successfully you must login as SUPERVISOR and complete the DDF update procedure.
